If you are looking for a great place to stay on Miami Beach but do not want to break the bank at hotels such as The Fountainebleu or the Ritz Carlton, consider The Hotel of South Beach. I recently spent 4 nights at this chic hotel only 1 block from the beach for 4 nights and was pleasantly surprised.
Having lived in the South Florida area previously I was familiar with The Hotel’s location and its lobby and bar area but had never stayed overnight. After doing extensive research on hotels that were within 1-2 blocks of the beach and finding high reviews on trip advisor with room prices ranging from 300- $500 a night, I decided to give this hotel a try.
For those familiar with South Beach, The Hotel is located at 8th and Collins literally 1 block from all the action of Ocean Drive and the gorgeous white sand and clear sea of the Atlantic Ocean. The entire hotel was decorated by famed designer Todd Oldham and is inspired by the blues and greens of the ocean. The details of this can be seen everywhere including the handles of the furniture, the bedding, the light fixtures and even the towel hooks in the bathrooms. I loved it!
It is 4 stories high and has both regular rooms and suites, a restaurant in the lobby, and by far the best feature-the heated rooftop pool with unbelievable views of the ocean. There is also a gym located on the rooftop near the pool as well as two bars with food service, cabanas and lounge chairs. The pool is open until 8pm so you can enjoy the sunsets and cruise ships sailing off in the horizon. All rooms include free wifi and our double room came with towels and 2 lounge chairs on the beach that were available every day from 9-5pm.
The front desk and service attendants were lovely. They were all courteous and in such a short time they were familiar with us and always asked how they could be of service. Their impeccable service actually began when our taxi pulled up to the curb of the hotel and attended came up to retrieve our bags from the trunk. I wasn’t sure how he even knew we were staying there! The hotel offers free yoga poolside on Saturday mornings and can arrange poolside massages. I appreciated the front door attendants who hailed our cabs and opened the doors for us as true gentlemen should. My only complaint about this hotel was the noise. The walls were very thin and we could here complete conversations in the rooms next door as well as children running around early in the morning. Also, the maid service starts around 8-8.30 am knocking on doors saying “housekeeping” and even though we had our do not disturb sign on the door, the hallways are very narrow and we could hear them from door to door along with their conversations among each other. They do however offer evening turn down service which is nice.
Overall this was an exceptional experience and I highly recommend The Hotel of South Beach for your next trip to Miami Beach.
