On Friday October 21st I had the pleasure of attending a champagne tasting at Purple Corkscrew Wine Shop & Tasting Room. The event was held on Global Champagne Day. Yes, all around the globe people were popping open champagne bottles and drinking champagne to celebrate this yummy beverage. Purple Corkscrew took it a bit further. They held a “Champagne Tasting & Sabrage on the Patio” event. Have you ever sabered a bottle of champagne or seen it done? This was something I did not want to miss!
On arrival, I was given a signature glass to start my champagne tasting along with a quick tour of the Purple Corkscrew. Along with a variety of champagnes available for the tasting, hors d’ oeuvres were being served by Chef Paula of “For Wineauxs Only.” I was in heaven going between champagne tastings and delicious food! The connoisseur guided us through each tasting such as sparking wines from Washington State-Domaine Ste. Michelle. BTW, do you know the difference between champagne, sparking wine and Prosecco etc? If not, be sure to read my blog post on this very topic. I love drinking champagne and I am familiar with popular brands such as Veuve Clicquot and Moet & Chandon. However, I was introduced to Nicolas Feuillatte which is the number one selling brand of champagne in France!
Chef Paula delighted guests with her “Artisan Collection” of wine spreads and her chocolate pate which was to die for! She served other appetizers of breads, chicken and crab chowder which were equally delicious.
As the sun set the guests were invited out to the patio to watch the champagne bottle sabering! It was very exciting! After the host did the first bottle, guests were invited to attempt it on their own. I was impressed by the number of guests willing to attempt it and who were successful on the first try! We all drank different types of sparking goodness from the sabered bottles at dusk on the patio. What a way to end a wonderful evening!

Purple Corkscrew Wine Shop & Tasting Room is located in Avondale Estates. Steffini is the proprietor of the Purple Corkscrew and with her team they have created a cozy atmosphere for both tasting and shopping for wine. They hand select and taste every wine that is offered in the shop! They are open Monday through Saturdays and have regular wine tasting events with complimentary tastings and small bites available. The Purple Corkscrew is also available for private event bookings. I attended this event on behalf of Culinary Local but all opinions expressed in this post are my own.
This looks like so much fun! Everything is better with champagne, right?! 😀
Yes it is! Thanks for reading!
