50 + Amazing Black Travel Bloggers You Should Follow!

Top Black Travel Bloggers

by Nadeen
June 7, 2020
A A
amazing black travel bloggers, black travel, travel bloggers, travel blogs

Updated June 2020. Since this post was originally written 2 years ago, I have met additional amazing Black and Brown travel bloggers. But still, the travel industry lacks diversity. We are not well represented. Although “Diversity and Inclusion” is the current “it” phrase, how many travel brands are actually practicing this? How many are hiring travel bloggers of color for their executive teams and campaigns? How many of them are paying us equally? As you can see from this list, Black travel bloggers cover all travel niches including luxury, family travel, adventure travel, budget, solo, culinary and outdoor travel. The additional Black travel bloggers listed really deserve their own blog post as a Part II. However, I wanted to have one big fat list as a resource especially since this blog post still ranks as #1 for a Google search of “Black Travel Bloggers”. So, even if you have read this list before, please scroll to the bottom to follow the new travel bloggers listed. Thank you.

Start of original post…

The black travel bloggers listed range in age, sex, and travel niches. Although I have been blogging for years now, this is my first round up of black travel bloggers. I have admired many of these travel bloggers over the years and they have inspired me and supported me in this travel blogging journey. Another reason I wanted to feature these amazing black travel bloggers is because too often travel blogging lists look the same and lack diversity. Besides paying homage to the pioneers that you are probably familiar with, I wanted to showcase new and less familiar black travel bloggers. There are so many of us out here.

I have chosen Instagram as the means to introduce them because Instagram has also become very uniform in terms of what types of bloggers and photos get seen. Follow these amazing black travel bloggers listed below to get a diverse line up in your Instagram feed. I am sure you will love them as much as I do. It was actually hard to find pictures of some of these black travel bloggers on their Instagram accounts because their accounts are so focused on travel and beautiful photography.

Top 50 Black Travel Bloggers

1. Oneika The Traveller:

When I first started travel blogging, Oneika was the first person I could identify with (read more about my early experience as a black female travel writer). At the time, I honestly didn’t see any other female black travel bloggers on social media. Later I found several black travel couples I love to follow as well. Oneika is a trailblazer and I am so happy for her success. She speaks her mind about everything including the lack of diversity in travel blogging. Besides her blog, you can also catch her on Travel Channel’s Big City, Little Budget & One Bag and You’re Out.

2. Carol Cain of Girl Gone Travel:

I have also been following Carol for years and have had the privilege of meeting her in person. Carol is outspoken on her blog, on social media and in her work as a consultant about the need for diversity in travel blogging. She gave an excellent opening keynote speech at TBEX North America in 2015. She encouraged everyone to share their unique stories based on their different backgrounds. These days she is busy running @BraveWorldMedia

Erick wants to be the first African-American to travel to every country and I have no doubt that he will accomplish this. He has already traveled to 95 countries. Erick is not only one of my top 25 great black travel bloggers but he is also a vlogger and an accomplished photographer. He has the unique ability to capture humanity in pictures from all over the world.

  • What’s your favorite time of the day? Since I am NOT a morning person 😏 sunset is my FAV! Here are some pics from Sunsets on 🌅 Miami Beach 🏖 last week. Take me back!! I ❤️Atlanta but we are landlocked. Definitely something that’s hard to get used to after living in Florida for 8 years. I will need to retire near the ocean or at least on a lake. Yes retire..I’m 50 now so I need to start thinking about retirement lol 😂

  • Time for a joyful post!! 😄#birthdaybehavior🎉 .
Today is my 50th Birthday 🥳!! (😳I still can’t believe that but age is just a number right?!)

I decided to escape the cold in Atlanta and head to a warm sunny beach. No matter where I am in the world 🌍 warm weather and the beach 🏖 always makes me happy 😊.

COVID-19 has caused cancellation, postponement and alterations of so many special occasions since year. But, I am so grateful to have made it thru 2020 and to be able to celebrate this birthday. To do it on on a beach is a bonus!

Please remember that if you decide to travel 🧳 do it safely. Research the destination you are going to and follow all the guidelines. Continue to wear masks 😷 and practice social distancing. I also recommend getting a COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to you. You can read all about the vaccines and how to travel safely during the pandemic on my blog (links in my profile)

Where is your happy place?

  • This question has been lingering in my head since the events that occurred on January 6th. The assault on our nation’s Capitol by domestic terrorists. 😡😡

Although my platform is about affordable luxury travel, food, wine and as a physician I also discuss medical & health topics, I just can not ignore issues that affect my daily life, my country and the world I live in. All of those things affect whether I can function as a human being and perform my job as physician and a content creator. I also feel that having this platform is a chance to inform and educate others on what life is like from a Black woman’s perspective. There are not enough of us that have a platform to do this so I do not take it for granted. If what I say offend’s others or turns off brands, then they may not be a right fit for me to work with anyway. I always speak my mind and also tell the truth and I’m willing to listen to the point of view of other’s (as long as it’s not crazy talk 😉😉)

BUT I recognize that not everyone feels this way. There are MANY influencers who are afraid to use their platforms to speak out about anything they feel may scare away followers or brands. They don’t feel it’s their place or duty to discuss anything deemed “racial” or “political”. They would like to stick to their niches, be a happy distraction to all the noise in the world or not feel qualified to discuss the issues because they don’t know enough about them. They continue to post recipes, pics of puppies & pets while things burn 🔥 down around them.

But is it OK to not even acknowledge what’s going on? To not acknowledge the protests, murders, lives lost? Is it OK to not want to learn about the issues & better understand them? Is it OK to live in a bubble because these issues do not affect you or your family & followers?

I don’t believe everyone should be an activist. I don’t even consider myself to be one. But to turn a blind eye to social or political injustices is a privilege that a lot of people in this country just do not have.

What do you think?

  • This song by @childishgambino has been in my head all day. The words “This is America” has been repeating in my head over and over as I watched the events take place at the Capitol. Like WTF?!!!

I went from being full of excitement and relief over the Senate elections in Georgia last night to this disgraceful show of domestic terrorism today.

***What I saw....
Crowds of privileged fearless white people Trump supporters storm thru barriers and pass armed guards into the Capitol with large confederate flags and Trump flags taking over the Senate floor and offices of those who serve our government.

***What I didn’t see??!!!
I didn’t see any real effort to stop them! I saw gates being opened. I saw guards with guns but NO guns being drawn as they entered the Capitol and strolled up to the second floor. I didn’t see tear gas or rubber bullets. I didn’t see arrests as they sat in Nancy Pelosi’s office or on the Senate floor or taking equipment out the building.

If this were a group of BLM protestors or Black people what would have happened? Do I really need to tell you? DOA

Make no mistake. These are TERRORISTS. This was a COUP incited by a reckless and disgusting sore loser of a President that should be arrested and removed.

And the nerve of these Republican Senators and Representatives to still contest this election tonight and delay the ceremonial certification of votes?!!

This is a travesty of justice. This is not Democracy and we are a complete embarrassment to the rest of the world. Whatever “legacy” this dictator has/had should be ruined in history FOREVER!

January 20th can not come soon enough. If only the 25th amendment can be invoked. Please keep our President and VP elect safe. 🙏🏽🙏🏽

  • I’m so incredibly proud of my state today!!! I have had “Georgia on my mind” since 11/3!!! I knew we could do this but I was so nervous! I stayed up until 4am watching the results pour in. We turned BLUE again x 2!!!! I live in Atlanta and there is never any doubt that this area will be BlUE but Georgia is a deep red Southern state. For this to happen, to elect a Democratic President followed by not 1 but 2 Democratic Senators-one being Black and the other being Jewish is truly a miracle and a sign of the times!!!! Thank you to @staceyabrams and @fairfightaction !!!
This started over 2 years ago and justice has been served. We must continue this fight!!!!
